With Roger Clemens being the “King of New York” now after taking the throne from AROD, many people have reacted to what transpired in NY yesterday.

Curt Schilling:

I happened to see the scoreboard during the game that the Yankees ended up getting Clemens. The media had much to say and ask about it after the game and my answer was the same as I think a lot of guys in our clubhouse; so what? Would it have been nice to pitch with Roger Clemens? Absolutely. Would he have helped us be a better team? I honestly don’t know. Julian has held his own in the 5th spot and we got a young left hander that went 7-2 last year in the big leagues that’s chomping at the bit to get back here. I am sure his signing was a pretty nice lift for them given the decimating injuries they’ve gone through to this point but I felt before the season, and even more so now, that this team is built to win a World Series as it’s comprised right now. We have the pieces, we have the chemistry and to this point we’ve had our health. If we stay somewhat healthy through the year then our fate will be totally on us. We don’t need anyone else to ‘get us over the hump’ or make that late push. This roster right now can win a World Series, but it’s going to fall on the players to make that happen.

Boston Red Sox official statement:

“We met with Randy Hendricks earlier this week and, at Randy’s request, made an offer to Roger Clemens. We offered a substantial salary and suggested, for health purposes, that Clemens return on approximately the same timetable as last year. Today we learned from Randy that Clemens has signed elsewhere.”

Jeff Louderback from Sox and Pinstripes:

Before he has even thrown a pitch, Clemens is being hailed a savior by Yankees fans who are clinging to any shred of hope. Right now, the Yankees are a non-factor, a game below .500 and 5.5 games out of first place. The addition of Clemens will help, but they must contend with consecutive series against the White Sox, Mets, Red Sox, Angels, Blue Jays, Red Sox and White Sox after their 14-game respite against the Rangers and Mariners is over.

Vince Mercandetti from Sox and Pinstripes:

According to Clemens, having “the greatest closer” he has ever pitched for, his closest buddies on the team and the “best manager” he has ever played for all in one place, along with the ability to win, was the most important thing for him. He looks forward to helping the “young guys” develop and bringing some experience and stability to the rotation. With Phil Hughes, a pitcher who has been compared to Roger Clemens, acting as a sponge around him for the rest of the season, Hughes may fast track his way towards dominance as well. It would have had the same effect on guys like Josh Beckett or Jon Lester in Boston. That can only spell bad things for every other team.

Christine from Boston Red Thoughts:

Why, Why, WHY is this surprising, shocking, saddening,. dismaying to ANYONE? Roger Clemens does not care AT ALL about fans–none, zip, zilch, nada. He does not care about being “’sentimental” and returning to the Sox, he does not care about “the hometown team” and going back to the Astros, he never cared about “signing loser to home” and going to Toronto , and he certainly never cared about the Skankees!

Lizzy from Babes Love Baseball:

Roger Clemens. Let me just preface this by saying that my burning hatred of this fat, balding man has very little to do with his abrupt departure from the Red Sox (I’ve totally forgiven Wade Boggs, and Johnny Damon is just too dumb) but his need to feed the beast that is his Sidney Ponson sized ego!

See, I have this horrific mental picture of Roger jerking off to newspaper articles about himself but after they are three days old, Little Roger can no longer rise to the occasion. And since the only other thing capable of giving him a boner, Andy Pettitte, isn’t around anymore, Elephant Ass needs to make more news.
