Did you know that Tom Brady’s career record is 56-2 when holding a lead at the half?
Patriots linebacker Roosevelt Colvin has been nominated for NFL Defensive Player of the Week after his game against the Chargers. Also nominated were Chicago linebacker Lance Briggs, San Francisco cornerback Nate Clements, Indianapolis safety Bob Sanders and Minnesota safety Darren Sharper.
Patriots fans can vote for Colvin through Thursday at NFL.com.
Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was impressed with the 65 yard interception return for a touchdown by linebacker Adalius Thomas. So impressed he invoked the name of Lawrence Taylor, who Belichick coached with the Giants.
“I thought it was an impressive run,” said Belichick. “I thought he showed a lot of speed there and it didn’t look like he was losing a lot of ground. It reminded me of the play against Detroit when I was with the Giants when Lawrence Taylor intercepted a pass on the goal line and went down the sideline.”They were chasing him for a while, but they didn’t chase him all the way, but Lawrence kept looking over his shoulder and saw the shadows from himself and he thought it was another player chasing him, so even though he was out in front of the whole team by 40 or 50 yards, he was running like there was a guy that was about to dive and trip him up by the ankles.
“He was a big guy that was pulling away from a lot of people on that run, too. That play was a long touchdown return by a linebacker. You don’t see a lot of those, but it was nice to see it.”
Bengals All-Pro wide receiver Chad Johnson chimed in on the Patriots and the video tape scandal. He actually went out of his way to defend them. Smart man Chad, the Pats play at Cincinnati in Week 4.
From the Boston Herald:
Not everyone believed the Pats deserved the beating they’ve taken in the court of public opinion. Bengals wide receiver Chad Johnson, appearing as a guest on Sirius Satellite Radio’s “Afternoon Blitz,” told hosts Adam Schein and Jim Miller that the uproar over Camera-gate is basically a red herring.”I don’t care whether they filmed it or not,” Johnson said. “They would still be successful at doing the things they do anyway.
“As a quarterback, you can see two-man (coverage) before you snap the ball anyway. When you’re one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, you already know what you’re seeing in front of you anyway. It doesn’t matter. And Tom Brady is a good one.
“The New England Patriots are not the best team in the league. They’re not the fastest team. They don’t have the most talent. You know what I mean? So it’s something. If it’s not the players it’s got to be the people that are coaching them, not the little camera filming the other team.”
Patriots owner Robert Kraft presented Belichick with a game ball after Sundays rout of San Digeo (which in german means “whales vagina”).
“I appreciated it. It was a nice gesture” – Belichick on being given the ball.
But it wasn’t just the owner who stood behind his coach. The fans and most importantly the players did as well led by Tedy Bruschi.
“This might be the most satisfying win of all,” Bruschi ventured in the post-game locker room.”I’ve never been in a situation where people were doubting us, our integrity. I care about that [Patriots] logo, as much as anyone in here. And I care about how we’re perceived. What we do is win football games. What we did tonight speaks volumes about who we are.”
Bruschi also had this for all the players who lost to the Patriots in years past, like Jerome Bettis, Hines Ward and others who offered criticism:
“Hey, I got something to say to all the players in the league who wanted to comment on this,” Bruschi said. “If you’re on past teams . . . I saw some of the players, and what they were saying. If you’re on past teams, and you got doubts (about us), if you got all these hypotheticals, well, I’ve got a hypothetical for you. Let’s get all the players that played with us and bring them back here. And let’s get all the players that you had on your teams and bring them back here. And let’s play again. We would win again. Period.”
You gotta love Tedy.
