Rookie Glenn “Big Baby” Davis stepped in started for an injured Kendrick Perkins tonight and in 26 minutes he had 16 points and 9 rebounds as the Boston Celtics improved to an NBA best 18-2 with a 90-78 win over the Sacramento Kings Wednesday evening at the TD BankNorth Garden.
Perkins who hurt his toe trying to fix his bed after it tilted to one side on Tuesday was held out of the line up and Davis responded. He was 3 of 6 from the field, 10 of 10 from the charity stripe and only committed two fouls in his biggest and best outing of the season.
On a night when the Celtics were without their starting center and two of the “Three Amigo’s” were off it was the rookie who stood up.
In addition to the big man from LSU, the Green got 26 points from Paul Pierce, 15 from Ray Allen and 11 from Kevin Garnett.
Sacramento was led by resident nut case Ron Artest who had 16 points, Beno Udrih also had 16 points and Brad Miller chipped in 14 for the Kings.
The Celtics, who are now 13-0 at home will try to tie the team record of 14 wins at home to start the season on Friday night when they host the Milwaukee Bucks and Yi Jainlian.
