Report: Lowell Heading To Texas For Minor League Catcher

Nothing like waking up in the morning to find out that the third baseman of your favorite team is most likely heading to the Texas Rangers.

Boston Red Sox third baseman Mike Lowell fields a ball during practice in Anaheim, Calif. , Wednesday, Oct. 7, 2009, in preparation for the team's upcoming American League division series baseball game against the Los Angeles Angels - AP PhotoAccording to FOXSports.com, the Boston Red Sox and Rangers have reached a preliminary agreement that will send third baseman Mike Lowell and $9 million to Arlington for minor league catcher Max Ramirez.

The $9 million would cover 3/4 of Lowell’s $12 million salary he is owed for 2010. The deal is contingent upon both players passing physicals.

Ramirez was ranked as the No. 8 prospect in the Rangers organization at the end of the 2009 season by MLB.com.

No word on whether or not the Red Sox will ask Ramirez to change his first name to Ramon so they can have three of them in the organization.

Update 8:30 PM – Tony Massarotti of the Boston Globe is reporting that the deal is done pending physicals for both players.

More Edsall To Notre Dame Rumors

Randy Edsall - Hartford Courant

Can Cincinnati Bearcats head coach Brian Kelly just take the dang Notre Dame job so we don’t have to listen the rumors anymore?

According to Joe Schad of ESPN.com, there is mutual interest between Notre Dame and Randy Edsall for the open coaching job in South Bend.

Late last night, it looked as though it was all but done that Kelly would be taking over as the Fighting Irish coach.

So it’s obvious something has changed. Maybe Kelly wanted the bowl swag from the Sugar Bowl.

Edsall hasn’t spoken about the rumors since Sunday and is supposed to be out on the recruiting trail right now for UConn. According to John Silver of the Journal Inquirer, Edsall is supposed to be in Birmingham, AL on Thursday for something to do with the PapaJohns.com Bowl that UConn will be playing in on January 2, 2010.

Seriously, can someone just make a decision (I’m talking to you Edsall) about the dang job already?

Quote of the Day: Jim Calhoun

Jim Calhoun - AP PhotoWell John came in from Moon Township, Pa., and didn’t know — he was asked the king of New England. Their program was king of New England. He didn’t know what “Chowda” was, with an A. You know what I’m saying? You’ve got to know what clam chowda is before you start saying that you’re — especially for a guy from South Boston, it’s very tough for a guy to say that.
