Lester’s Cancer Said To Be in Remission

According to a published report in the Boston Globe, it was reported that Jon Lester’s cancer is in remission and that he will be in camp for spring training when the Red Sox report. There was no confirmation on this from Lester himself or the Red Sox.

If this report is true, this bodes well for Jon Lester. It was thought he might miss all of 2007 with the cancer. As far as the Red Sox plans for him in 2007, those are not known. I would think the Sox would bring him back slowly as to not take any chances with his health.

Update: As pointed out by Steve’s link in the comment’s section, Lester has officially been pronounced cancer free by his doctors. Lester said he has more session of chemo and will be ready for the start of spring training.

UCONN Men Maul Tigers

On Sunday afternoon at Gampel, The UCONN Men absolutely annihilated the Tigers of Texas Southern University by a final score of 106-55. The Huskies were led by AJ Price who had 20 pts and 7 assists and Hasheem Thabeet’s 7 pts and 10 blocked shots. His 10 blocks tied a school record held by Donyell Marshall and Emeka Okafor. Four other players scored in double figures for the Huskies: Jerome Dyson with 19, Doug Wiggins with a career high 17, Jeff Adrien and Marcus Johnson with 11 pts each.

Since the game wasn’t on television today, its hard for me to give any insight. From the look of the final score, it doesn’t look like UCONN had any trouble.

Rants and Raves

I am not normally one to peruse the message boards about UCONN women’s basketball because I have my own place to put my thoughts. Right here. Your asking why I am saying this. I will tell you. I had a friend send me a link to a message board about women’s basketball at ESPN.com because there was some really stupid comments about the ethnicity of the UCONN women’s team. I myself do not think this way because I believe we are all one color, one race, one people. Sometimes I begin to wonder about the people who post on message boards that really make themselves look like aholes idiots. Is it necessary for people to be so racial when it comes to making comments? Have any of these people ever played an organized sport? I have a friend who I will admit knows more about certain women’s teams than I do. I don’t knock her for that in fact I give her credit. I know ALOT about sports, sometimes way too much. But never, ever, would I even consider making a comment that I felt was racial or demeaning to others. Read more after the jump.
