UConn Football Announces Home-And-Home Series With Missouri

This in from UConn:
STORRS, Conn. (September 18, 2014) — The University of Connecticut and the University of Missouri will play a two-game football series in 2015 and ’17. The first game will be on September 19, 2015 at Faurot Field in Columbia, Missouri while the second game will be September 23, 2017 at Rentschler Field in East Hartford.
The Tigers have been a member of the Southeastern Conference since 2012 and have played in bowl games in nine of the past 11 years, including a win over Oklahoma State in last year’s Cotton Bowl Classic. Head coach Gary Pinkel is currently in his third season at the school in 2014.
“We are very excited about playing a football series against Missouri as we continue to build a competitive non-conference schedule for our team and an exciting one for our loyal fans,” said UConn Director of Athletics Warde Manuel. “Our future football schedules have a number of games from various leagues around the country and I am happy to add Missouri and the Southeastern Conference to those contests.”
UConn has a 2-2 record against current teams in the Southeastern Conference with a win over South Carolina in the 2010 Papajohns.com Bowl and a 1-2 all-time series mark vs. Vanderbilt, including a win in 2010.
The Missouri series completes UConn’s non-conference scheduling for both 2015 and 2017. UConn will also play at series with Massachusetts on September 10, 2016 as the Huskies make their Gillette Stadium debut in Foxborough and on September 2, 2017 at Rentschler Field.
UConn will also play FCS opponent Maine on September 3, 2016.
Here is a summary of all future UConn non-conference football games under contract:
2015: September 5, Villanova; September 12, Army; September 19, at Missouri; October 2, at BYU.
2016: September 3, Maine; September 10, at UMass (Foxborough, Mass.); September 17, Virginia.
2017: September 2, UMass; September 9, Holy Cross; September 16, at Virginia; September 23, Missouri.
2018: September 8, at Boise State.
2019: September 7, Illinois; September 21, at Indiana.
2020: September 12, at Illinois; September 26, Indiana.
UConn and Tennessee have a two-game home-and-home series under contract with dates to be determined.
Tickets to Friday night’s UConn and South Florida game start at just $12
This week the Huskies will be on the road to face off against the South Florida Bulls this Friday night on a nationally televised game on ESPN. Both teams boast 1-2 records with the Huskies losing to BYU 35-10 at home the opening week, defeating Stony Brook 19-16 on September 6th, and then falling to Boise State 38-21 last week. Meanwhile, South Florida opened their season with a 36-31 victory against the Western Carolina Catamounts, but have since fallen to ACC foes Maryland and North Carolina State 24-17 and 49-17, respectively.
This will be the first road test for the Huskies and the fourth consecutive home game for the Bulls. Currently, the average price for South Florida vs. UConn football tickets is $38 with a get-in price of $12, according to ticket data provided by Easy Seat. Connecticut fans located down in Florida can find some great bargains on ticket prices so make sure to come out and show your support for the Huskies in enemy territory.
Following this weekend’s road game, the Huskies will return home for a matchup against the Temple Owls. It will be the only home game until November 1st when the Central Florida Knights come to town. They will then rotate between road and home games for the remainder of the season, culminating in the home finale on December 6th against SMU.
Tickets for Temple vs. UConn are a little pricier than the road contest at South Florida with the average price currently at $50 on the secondary market and a get-in price of $19. That is the cheapest game remaining on the 2014 UConn football schedule and 36% cheaper than their home average this year which currently stands at $68.
The Huskies will look to get back to .500 this week before their date with Temple on the 27th. If they can, expect a small uptick in ticket prices, but nothing too drastic.

Head coach Kevin Ollie of the Connecticut Huskies acknowledges the crowd after defeating the Kentucky Wildcats 60-54 in the NCAA Men’s Final Four Championship at AT&T Stadium on April 7, 2014 in Arlington, Texas.
This in from UConn:
UConn men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie, who guided the Huskies to the 2014 NCAA National Championship in just his second season as head coach, will be honored Wednesday as “The Ray Meyer College Coach of the Year” by the Chicagoland Sports Hall of Fame.
It is the seventh year that the organization has honored the NCAA Champion coach at its annual induction dinner, which is set for Wednesday evening at the Gold Cup Room at Hawthorne Race Course in Chicago.
In addition to Ollie, honored at the dinner will be Heisman Trophy winner Earl Campbell with the Gale Sayers Award, former Miami Dolphins lineman Bob Kuechenburg with The George Connor Award, along with Hall of Fame inductees Dave Diehl, Donovan McNabb, Johnny Musso and Tom Zbikowski from the world of football. From baseball, inductees include Goose Gossage and White Sox legend Minnie Minoso will receive a lifetime achievement award.
From basketball, scheduled for induction are Bill Cartwright, Craig Hodges, Bill Wennington, Tim Hardaway and Quentin Richardson.
Ollie took the Huskies to a 32-8 record last season, coaching UConn’s to victories over Saint Joseph’s, Villanova, Iowa State, Michigan State, Florida, and Kentucky in the NCAA Tournament on its way to its fourth national title. Ollie became the fastest coach to reach 50 wins (52-18) in UConn history.
The award is named for Hall of Fame coach Ray Meyer, who coached DePaul for 42 years (1942-84) and compiled a 724-354 career record, still 17th on the all-time NCAA coaching list for total wins. Meyer’s teams won the NIT in 1945 and reached the NCAA Final Four in 1943 and 1979. He was the college coach of George Mikan, who went on to become the first of the great NBA big men. Meyer passed away in 2006.
