Video: Tigers Complete Sweep Of Red Sox With 6-2 Win

Victor Martinez #41 of the Detroit Tigers is congratulated by teammate Austin Jackson #14 after hitting a two-run home run in the third inning against the Boston Red Sox during the game at Fenway Park on May 18, 2014 in Boston, Massachusetts.

If you thought Fenway Park looked a little cleaner than normal after Sunday’s night game, you were right. So why was it so clean you ask?

Well, the Detroit Tigers broke out their brooms when they completed a weekend sweep of the Boston Red Sox with a 6-2 win. It’s the 11th straight road win for the Tigers. It is also the first time since the wretched 2012 season where the local nine has lost four games in a row.

The top three hitters in the Tigers order, Ian Kinsler (four hits), Torii Hunter (two hits, RBI) and Miguel Cabrera (three hits, 2 RBIs) did the most damage by going a combined 9-for-14 in the game with three RBIs. Oh and former catcher Victor Martinez delivered the decisive blow in the 3rd with a two-run home run.

Jake Peavy struggled with the command of his breaking stuff and it showed as evidenced by the numbers above. He allowed five runs on 11 hits with two strikeouts over over six innings of work.

Xander Bogaerts had two hits to lead the Red Sox and had the only RBI of the night on a single in the 2nd inning. The other Red Sox run scored on a Mike Napoli fielder’s choice with the bases loaded.

Sunday Red Sox Delight – 5/18/14

Anibal Sanchez (L), Jake Peavy (R)

After falling last night, the Boston Red Sox look to avoid being swept tonight by the Detroit Tigers in the finale of a three-game set at Fenway Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 8:05 p.m. The game will be broadcast nationally on ESPN. You can also catch the game online at WatchESPN where available. And if you can’t catch the game on television, you can always listen on the 2014 Red Sox Radio Network.

Jake Peavy will try to help the Red Sox avoid the sweep in his ninth start of 2014. In his previous eight starts, Peavy is 1-1 with a 3.94 ERA. He picked up the win his lone start against the Tigers in 2013 as a member of the Chicago White Sox when he allowed four runs in seven innings of work. He’s made 12 career starts against the Tigers and is 4-5 with a 4.83 ERA. This will be his first career start against them at the Fens.

The one-time Red Sox farm hand Anibal Sanchez makes his sixth start of 2014 for the Tigers. In his previous five starts, Sanchez is 0-2 with a 3.13 ERA. His lone appearance against the Red Sox came in 2006 as a member of the then Florida Marlins when he allowed seven earned runs over 4.1 innings of work. This will be his start/appearance at the Fens.

Video: Porcello Shuts Down Red Sox In Tigers 6-1 Win

Miguel Cabrera #24 of the Detroit Tigers looks at A.J. Pierzynski #40 of the Boston Red Sox, after hitting a home run in the third inning at Fenway Park on May 17, 2014 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Detroit Tigers starter Rick Porcello has had his struggles against the Boston Red Sox and at Fenway Park. Saturday night was not one of those nights though.

Porcello allowed one run over eight innings while Miguel Cabrera had three hits and two RBIs to lead the Tigers to a 6-1 win over the Red Sox. It’s the 10th straight road win for Detroit.

John Lackey started this one for the local nine and wasn’t bad. He also wasn’t good. He did throw some good pitches but he also was just missing the strike zone. Basically it just wasn’t his night.

Xander Bogaerts had the only Red Sox RBI of the night with a solo home run in the 5th inning for one of his two hits. Mike Napoli had three hits while David Ortiz extended his hitting streak to 10 games.
