Video: Jacoby Ellsbury Delivers Walkoff Win

There hasn’t been too many bright moments for the Boston Red Sox this season. So leave it to Jacoby Ellsbury to celebrate his 29th birthday in style by delivering a walkoff single to help his team to a 4-3 win over the New York Yankees on Tuesday night.

Tuesday Red Sox Travesty

Hiroki Kuroda (L), Jon Lester (R)

After being swept by the Toronto Blue Jays over the weekend, the Boston Red Sox will finish up the six-game, seven-day homestand with the first game of a three-game set against the New York Yankees at historic Fenway Park.

First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on NESN in the Red Sox television market. If you live in the Yankees television market, you can catch the game on MY9.  And if you don’t live in either market you’re in luck as the MLB Network will have coverage of the game (outside of Red Sox and Yankees television markets). If you can’t catch the television broadcast, you can always listen to it on the Red Sox radio network.

Jon Lester makes his team leading 29th start for the Red Sox. In his previous 28 starts, Lester is 9-11 with a 4.99 ERA. He’s made three starts against the Red Sox and is 1-1 with a 4.67 ERA (9 ER/17.1 IP). Lester has made 20 career starts against the Yankees and is 9-4 with a 4.23 ERA.  Eight of those starts have come at the Fens where he is 2-2 with a 5.11 ERA.

Hiroki Kuroda is also making his 29th start of 2012. In his previous 28 starts, Kuroda is 13-11 with a 3.14 ERA. He’s made three starts against the Red Sox this season and is 1-0 with a 3.74 ERA. Kuroda has made four career starts against the local nine and is 1-1 with a 3.45 ERA. Two of those starts have come at the Fens where he is 0-1 with a 5.45 ERA (8 ER/12.2 IP).

Red Sox News & Notes – 9/11

Dustin Pedroia #15 of the Boston Red Sox walks back into position in the fourth inning after a run scored against the Toronto Blue Jays at Fenway Park on September 9, 2012 in Boston, Massachusetts.

Color me shocked that Boston Red Sox skipper Bobby Valentine wasn’t fired yesterday. It was the perfect time to do it.

There’s no way he’s going to be back next season so with the Red Sox off yesterday before the New York Yankees come to town, it was a good time to do it. But nope, it DID NOT happen.

It makes you wonder what kind of dirt that Valentine has on the Red Sox ownership group/front office. There’s no reason for him to be at the helm anymore.

Everytime you see him, he looks defeated like a child when he/she loses his/her favorite stuffed animal. The words that come out of his mouth in his pre and post-game press conferences don’t make sense. Whether jokingly or not, last week he threatened to punch Glenn Ordway of WEEI’s “The Big Show” in the mouth for a question he asked.

It’s time for him to go.

The Red Sox do have the opportunity to play spoiler as 18 of their final 21 games come against their AL East brethren that are involved in the playoff race (Yankees, Baltimore Orioles and Tampa Bay Rays). But with the way they’ve looked lately, it’s unlikely that’ll happen.

I do hope it does because it’s way past not being fun to watch these guys play.

We’ll be back later with today’s lineups, batter/pitcher matchups and links from the day. So for now, let’s take at look at the overnight links from the media by clicking on the read more button below if you’re on the home page.

Always Remember, Never Forget – 9/11

Always Remember Never Forget

Please take a moment sometime during the day today to remember the victims and countless heroes of the fateful day known as 9-11-01.

Happy Birthday to all those born on this date. Let our celebration of life be a reminder to those that attempted to break us that we are still standing proudly and believe that America is the best place to live!!

Please don’t forget our troops who are overseas defending our great country and those who gave their lives.

I found this very moving video on YouTube aptly named “9-11 World Trade Center Memorial – Jeff Buckley/Hallelujah”

And even though my mom doesn’t celebrate her birthday anymore on this date, I am still going to wish her a Happy Birthday.

UConn Depth Chart for Maryland

UConn Huskies vs Maryland Terrapins

UConn Huskies head football coach Paul Pasqualoni has released his depth chart for the game on Saturday against the Maryland Terrapins otherwise known as the “Randy Edsall Bowl”.

This week’s depth chart features zero changes from last week’s depth chart against NC State.

Given how the offensive line played against State, I’m surprised there were no changes. But of course things can change during the week of practice leading up to the game on Saturday so take this for what is.

For a full look at the UConn Huskies depth chart for the Maryland Terrapins game, please click on the read more button below if you’re on the home page.
