HARTFORD, June 3, 2011: Connecticut Whale general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the team has signed forward Max Campbell to an American Hockey League contract.
Campbell, a 6-0, 190-pound, 22-year-old native of Strathroy, Ontario, just completed a four-year career at Western Michigan University. Campbell posted college career highs of 42 games-played, 18 goals, 17 assists and 35 points this past season, leading all Western Michigan skaters in points and goals. Highlights of his season included a game-winning overtime goal March 13 vs. Ferris State that sent Western Michigan to its first Central Collegiate Hockey Association (CCHA) Semi-final berth since 1993, and a four-point game (one goal, three assists) that tied a personal career high November 26, in a 5-2 win over #5 Miami.
A fifth-round (138th overall) draftee by the parent New York Rangers in 2007 prior to his college career, Campbell posted Western Michigan career totals of 154 games-played, 46 goals, 61 assists, 107 points and 113 penalty minutes.
