The field at Rentschler Field held up a little better this week although it was evident at times towards the end that the problems had returned. It looked as though Tyler Lorenzen slipped on a QB sneak on 4th down. I don’t think other than at halftime did I see the grounds crew on the field. They will have two weeks now to get the field in better shape for the Akron game on the 29th.
They did lay sod down and you could definitely see where they did. They also did some seeding and put nutrients into the ground.
Randy Edsall was happy his team got another win but said that they need to play better and play a full 60 minutes. UCONN was lucky to get out of the Rent with a win on Saturday afternoon.
Even though Andre Dixon ran for 124 yards, Donald Brown II remains the starter at tailback. Dixon’s slashing style was more effective. I’ll be honest it didn’t seem like he ran for that much but after watching the game again, it was more noticeable. I had been saying during the game that we didn’t really see a lot of Brown and I actually thought he was hurt.
I went over and watched Husky Walk this week and wasn’t that really impressed with the fan turnout. The band was also not there for the second week in a row. I actually heard them practicing on the field. I know it was raining at times out but folks, if we want to keep showing UCONN is big time for football (they aren’t quite there yet), we need to give the boys some more support. Our stadium only holds 40,000 and it’ was not full again. I am sure it will be full when Louisville comes to town for the Friday night game in October. That shouldn’t be the case though. Every game should be sold out.
Tony Ciaravino was named Big East Special Teams Player of the Week for his efforts in Saturday’s game. He was 3 for 3 on field goals including a career best 50-yarder.

UCONN’s women’s recruits Elena Delle Donne and Heather Buck will be featured in a doubleheader at Eastern CT State University or at Gampel Pavilion in February. This will be a great opportunity to see the future of the UCONN women’s team. This would mark the second appearance for Delle Donne in the area as her team will play in Springfield in January.

Tyreke Evans, one of the UCONN men’s basketball prized recruits, took in the action at the Rent on Saturday afternoon. He has narrowed his choices down to 5 schools.
