HARTFORD, September 5, 2014: Hartford Wolf Pack general manager Jim Schoenfeld announced today that the Wolf Pack has signed defenseman Steve Spinell to an AHL contract.
Spinell, a 23-year-old, 6-2, 210-pound native of Vernon Hills, IL, is entering his second year of pro hockey. As a rookie last season, Spinell saw action in seven AHL games with the Providence Bruins, going scoreless with two penalty minutes. In 58 games with the ECHL’s South Carolina Stingrays, he scored one goal and added eight assists for nine points, and logged 108 PIM, tops among team defensemen and second-most overall on the club. Spinell also was a +3 and had 70 shots on goal, the second-highest total by a Stingray blueliner. In ECHL postseason action, he was scoreless with a team-high 16 PIM in four games.
Before entering the pro ranks, Spinell spent four seasons at Miami University (Ohio). In 149 career CCHA games, he totaled four goals and 32 assists for 36 points, plus 234 minutes in penalties.
