Everyone said this was going to be a down year for the UConn Huskies men's basketball team.
But if they show the same resiliency they did on Friday night in the Armed Forces Classic, they are going to surprise a lot of people and teams across this great nation of ours.
Shabazz Napier had 25 points to lead UConn to the 66-62 upset over the No. 14 Michigan State Spartans in front of 3,100 in the Armed Forces Classic at Ramstein Air Base in Germany.
It's the first career win for new UConn head coach Kevin Ollie. Michigan State falls to 0-1 on the very young season.
This was the first time the NCAA has played a basketball game in Europe and it served as a homecoming for UConn's German contingent, Niels Giffey, Enosch Wolf and Leon Tolksdorf. Giffey had three points in the game while Wolf had two. Tolksdorf did not see any action.
Ryan Boatright added 13 points while DeAndre Daniels had 12. The Spartans were led by Keith Appling's 17 points.
Here are the postgame quotes from UConn head coach Kevin Ollie.
