New York Tabloid covers for Thursday, April 24, 2014

The story of last night’s Boston Red Sox vs New York Yankees game should have been the fact that John Lackey struck out 11 batters over the course of eight innings to help the home squad to a 5-1 win.

Instead Michael Pineda took all the headlines when he was busted for using pine tar in the 2nd inning. To his credit, he admitted it after the game and took responsibility along with apologizing to his teammates for his stupidity.

The odd part was he already given up two runs in the 1st inning but was having an easy 2nd inning before the ejection.

Lackey allowed just the one run while scattering seven hits over the eight innings with those 11 strikeouts. Even Koji Uehara got in on the action with three strikeouts of his own. The only member of the Yanks not to strikeout was Brian McCann.

Mike Napoli had three hits and an RBI to lead the home squad. Dustin Pedroia added two hits and an RBI while both A.J. Pierzynski and Brock Holt had a hit and a RBI.
