Red Sox Release Overbay

The Red Sox released first baseman Lyle Overbay today.

Overbay, 36, signed with Boston as a minor league free agent in January and was a non-roster invitee to Major League Spring Training.  In 19 games for the Red Sox this spring, he batted .220 with one double, two triples, and seven RBI.

The Yankees quickly signed Overbay to a minor league deal after his release from the Red Sox.
