Aceves Optioned To Triple-A; Lavarnway Recalled

It looks as though the Alfredo Aceves era with the Boston Red Sox is coming to an end.

According to multiple media outlets and first reported by CSN New England, Aceves has been optioned to Triple-A Pawtucket. He'll have 72 hours to report to PawSox.

Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe reports that catcher Ryan Lavarnway will be called up to replace Aceves on the 25-man roster. It's expected that Lavarnway will only be here until Sunday when it's expected that John Lackey will make his return from the disabled list. It's also when the Red Sox will next need a starting pitcher.

Aceves has made five appearances (three starts) for the Red Sox this season and is 1-1 with an 8.66 ERA.

After Tuesday night's loss in which he gave up eight runs, he blamed everyone but himself. But we all know this has been coming for a long time.

His antics started last season with former skipper Bobby Valentine and new manager John Farrell gave him a chance. It now appears that chance is done and it wouldn't surprise me if Aceves doesn't report to Pawtucket or gets traded.
