Red Sox Spring Training Delight – 3/2

Infielder Mike Napoli #12 of the Boston Red Sox tosses the ball against the Pittsburgh Pirates during a Grapefruit League Spring Training Game at JetBlue Park on March 1, 2013 in Fort Myers, Florida.

Mike Napoli made his Boston Red Sox spring training debut on Friday night and by all accounts things went fine.

It was actually pretty funny that he was tested in every way possible during the first inning. Almost like it was scripted.

Napoli was tested by the Pittsburgh Pirates first batter of the game, Darren Ford, who pushed a bunt down the line. Napoli was able to scoop it up and beat him to bag.

In the bottom half of the inning, he singled off Pirates pitcher Jeff Locke. Then he went first to third on a Stephen Drew double. Next up was scoring on a wild pitch by Locke.

So if we were worried about Napoli's running ability due to his hip condition, I don't think we need to worry right now.

Today, the Red Sox make the short trip across Ft. Myers to take on their crosstown rivals the Minnesota Twins in the first game of the coveted Mayor's Cup.

First pitch is schedule for 1:05 p.m. and you can listen to the game on WEEI Radio Network. If you have the MLB At-Bat app or a RSN membership, you'll be able to listen to the game using the GameDay audio feature.
