It’s hard to say it’s an upset when the unranked team looked like the ranked team and vice versa. But that’s what happened on Sunday night between the West Virginia Mountaineers and the No. 17 UConn Huskies.

Juwan Staten had 21 points to lead West Virginia past UConn 78-68 to win the Puerto Rico Tip-Off tournament title at Coliseo Roberto Clemente in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

With the loss, the Huskies fall to 3-1 while the Mountaineers improve to 5-0.

UConn was led by Ryan Boatright for third straight game with 17 points this time around. Daniel Hamilton added 15 points and nine rebounds but had eight turnovers while Kentan Facey had 10 points and eight rebounds.

The Huskies were without Rakim Lubin who was suspended along with Omar Calhoun and two walk-ons for a violation of team rules.

Staten was joined in double figures by Jonathan Holton who had 12 points and five rebounds. Daxter Miles Jr. added 10 points while Elijah Macon led them in rebounds with seven to go along with his six points.

UConn is back in action next Sunday when they’ll host they’ll host the Texas Longhorns at Gampel Pavilion.
