UConn Athletics Unveils New Visual Identity

Props to the UConn Blog for finding the new UConn Huskies Athletics logo earlier in the day on Thursday before UConn officially released it.

New UConn Huskies logoAbove folks is your new UConn Athletics logo. The red will only be used when UConn Athletics is written underneath it. Otherwise, the logo seen on the uniforms and apparel will be the one to your right.

As far as I know, UConn is still planning on unveiling the new uniforms on April 18th.

Here's the full release from UConn:

STORRS, Conn. - UConn Athletics today unveiled a new visual identity, including a new version of the Husky Dog logo.

“We are proud to share with everyone the new visual identity of UConn Athletics, which includes a new Husky Dog logo,” said Director of Athletics Warde Manuel.  “Our student-athletes and coaches strongly believe that the new Husky dog logo boldly reflects values such as Pride, Loyalty, Strength, Determination and Athleticism.  They are all very excited to wear it into competition and to see it displayed prominently in our facilities.”

“This logo is everything that a Husky is supposed to be—powerful, aggressive, determined. It is looking right through you and saying ‘Do not mess with me’,” said women’s basketball head coach Geno Auriemma. “This is a streamlined, fighting dog and I cannot wait for it to be on our uniforms and court.”

“I absolutely love this new Husky Dog logo,” said head men’s basketball coach Kevin Ollie. “It looks fantastic on our uniforms and I know that our fans will love it as much as we do. Our new identity is a look that I know I will be proud to wear.”

UConn Athletics has been working with Nike to evaluate all parts of its brand, including word marks, logos and uniforms, for the past 14 months. The new Husky Dog logo will be featured on uniforms for every one of UConn’s 24 athletic programs in 2013-14 and each of those uniforms will also prominently display the block UCONN word mark outlined in red.

A complete visual identity guide for UConn Athletics will be released in the coming weeks.
