PROVIDENCE, R.I. – A day after the UConn women’s basketball team responded to its first loss in 48 games with a 96-60 win over Creighton, junior forward Breanna Stewart (Syracuse, N.Y.) was tabbed as the American Athletic Conference’s Player of the week. In addition, freshman guard Kia Nurse (Hamilton, Ontario) earned a spot on the league’s honor roll.

Stewart, the 2013-14 AP Player of the Year, averaged 24.0 points per in the Huskies’ 1-1 week On Nov. 17, the junior notched 23 points on 8-of-18 shooting to go along with 10 rebounds against then-ranked No. 6 Stanford before collecting 25 points and 10 boards on an incredible 10-of-10 afternoon from the field in UConn’s home opener against Creighton.

Stewart now has two double-double performances in the 2014-15 campaign after posting 14 during her first two seasons combined. Her masterful shooting performance marked the first time a Husky had hit every shot from the field (min. 10 attempts) since Nykesha Sales in 1997. In addition, the forward now boasts 31 career games with at least 20 points.

Nurse was placed on the conference honor roll after delivering a career-best performance against the Bluejays on Sunday. The freshman chipped in 22 points on 6-of-7 shooting and connected on all four of her attempts from beyond the arc. Nurse also dished out a pair of assists and recorded two steals in the Huskies’ convincing win.

Next up, the Huskies travel to Estero, Fla. to participate in the Gulf Coast Showcase. UConn will play the College of Charleston on Friday, Nov. 28 at 8:30 p.m.
