Boston Red Sox skipper Terry Francona will no longer have Brad Mills to turn to on his bench.
Alyson Footer of MLB.com said on her Twitter page that the Houston Astros have hired the Red Sox bench coach as their next manager.
Mills had been with Francona for a long time as he was Francona’s first base coach with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1997-2000. Mills has been Francona’s bench coach with the Red Sox since the 2004 season.

Do you think they may move Tim Bogar into the dugout and search for a new firstbase coach? Wasn’t Tim also interviewed for the Houston job? Or maybe Ron Johnson gets his chance to move up from Pawtucket. Good luck to Brad Mills. He earned it.
That is quite possible. There are also remains the possibility that Mills could hire Bogar as his bench coach or first base coach. Interested to see what happens here.
Maybe bringing in some new blood will be good. In the dugout and the front office. We have lost some quality talent in Hoyer and Millsie.
If we are going to get AGon from Hoyer, I think he will make us pay bigtime.
This would be the perfect job for Varitek.
Too bad it didn’t happen next year, when Tek will be in player retirement mode.
Well, it’s time to bring on the hot stove season. Start with Wake and Oki and go from there.
