About twenty minutes ago on Twitter, Mike Reiss of the Boston Globe announced that the New England Patriots were going to be trading defensive lineman Richard Seymour to the Oakland Raiders. A few minutes later, Adam Schefter of ESPN tweeted that the Patriots have indeed traded Seymour to the Raiders for a first round pick in the 2011 Draft.
The Patriots themselves, via Twitter of course, have confirmed that Seymour was traded to the Raiders.
Richard Seymour was drafted by the Patriots in the first round (sixth overall) in the 2001 NFL Draft out of Georgia and has been a part of three Super Bowl Teams. He was named to the Pro Bowl five times in his career (2002, 2003, 2004, 2005, 2006).
In 101 career games with the Pats, Seymour had 357 tackles, 39 sacks and two interceptions.

that’s a bit of a strange one…now its nice to see us rack up the draft picks but our defense is a bit lacking…i guess its a changing of the guard for the pats but i didn’t think seymour would go
He’s in the last year of his contract and it frees up about $3.6 million off the cap. They also have a lot of guys that they need to sign after the season and this gives them some leeway.
Remember Wilfork is in the the final year of his contract too. Maybe they use the cap space for him.
WTF!! What are they going to do with that draft pick get a early overpaid first round draft pick next year! They know what they have in Richard, BB is retard…. and you don’t know what he’s going to do with that pick anyway. Maybe get two other 3rd round drafts pick or something else what a shewed dick….
The pick is for 2011 not next year. There’s the possibility of a rookie cap then and besides do you think the Raiders are going to be any good in the next two years.
If they get a top 5 pick in 2011, they can then move that pick for more draft picks if they so choose. Or they can get an impact player.
When I first heard this my reaction was much like Javier’s. Then I realized: this is the first round pick of the Raiders. And the way Al Davis is heading with this franchise, that pick looks to be a pretty high one unless Russell finally proves his worth and McFadden can show up these coming years.
Unless a major miracle happens, my guess is that this will be a top-10 pick in 2011.
