Boston Red Sox prospects Casey Kelly and Junichi Tazawa have been selected to represent the team in the 1th annual XM Satellite Radio All-Star Futures Game on All-Star Sunday in St. Louis on Sunday, July 12th at 2 PM.

The event will be broadcast live on MLB.tv, ESPN2 and ESPN2 HD.

Kelly was the Red Sox first round draft choice back in 2008. He spent the first part of the summer playing for the Gulf Coast Red Sox as a shortstop. He batted just .173 with one home run and 13 RBIs in 27 games before being promoted to the Lowell Spinners. He hit .344 with no home runs and 4 RBIs in 9 games for the Spinners.

He has spent the 2009 season exclusively as a pitcher and will throw a total of 100 innings before moving back to shortstop.

In nine starts with the Greenville Drive, he was 6-1 with a 1.12 ERA and 39 strikeouts before being promoted to the Salem Red Sox. With Salem, he is 1-2 with a 2.51 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 5 starts. He has thrown 77 innings this year so far and may be even closer to 100 with his spring training starts included.

Tazawa was an amateur free agent in Japan having spent the past four seasons in the Japanese Industrial League playing for the Nippon Oil ENEOS. He had asked the Japanese pro teams not to draft him so he could pursue his dream in the United States.

The Red Sox ended up signing him to a 3-year, $3.3 million deal and assigned him to the Portland Sea Dogs after an outstanding spring training with the Red Sox.

He made five appearances during spring training, throwing 9 innings. He allowed only one run and 5 hits over those appearances.

Tazawa has made 14 starts for the Sea Dogs and is 7-4 with 2.92 ERA and 71 strikeouts in 77 innings of work.

Kelly will be a member of the US Team while Tazawa will play for the World Team.
