After Josh Beckett bested Derek Lowe last night to even up the series at 1, the Boston Red Sox and Atlanta Braves will have the rubber game of their 3-game set at Fenway Park this afternoon, weather permitting.
The game this afternoon will start at 1:35 PM EDT and will be televised in the Red Sox television market on NESN. If you live in the Braves television market, you can catch the game on FOX Sports South. If you don’t live in either the Red Sox or Braves television market, you are in luck as today’s game will be broadcast nationally on TBS. And if the television isn’t your cup of tea, you can catch the game on one of the many affiliates of the Red Sox Radio Network.
Tim Wakefield looks for his MLB-tying 10th win (Kevin Slowey of the Twins and Roy Halladay of the Blue Jays both have 10) this afternoon on the bump for the Red Sox. In 13 starts, he is 9-3 with a 4.39 ERA. He has faced the Braves thirteen times (six starts) and is 6-7 with one save and 5.06 ERA.
Jair Jurrjens should be well rested for Bobby Cox this afternoon as he went two innings in his last start due to a rain delay in Cincinnati. He has made fourteen starts for the Braves this season and is 5-5 with a 2.89 ERA. He has never faced the Red Sox in his career.
Well we now have our answer with Daisuke Matsuzaka. He is heading to the 15-day DL with weakness and inflammation in his pitching shoulder. He has been replaced on the 25-man roster by Dusty Brown who figures to be with the local nine until Thursday when John Smoltz is activated. If Brown does appear in a game, it would mark his MLB debut.
And here is the obligatory weather update from the Red Sox:
“The current weather forecast in the vicinity of Fenway Park calls for the possibility of scattered light rain showers to move through the area during the late morning and afternoon hours.
The Fenway Park gates will open at the regularly scheduled time of 11:35 a.m., and the Red Sox expect that today’s game with the Atlanta Braves, which is scheduled to start at 1:35 p.m., will start on time. However, the Red Sox want to alert our fans to the current forecast and to the possibility of delay.”

32-35
41-27

Hey Ian, the Sox are 41-27 thanks to Beckett’s domination last night
Thanks. I could have sworn I had changed that when I wrote the post at 3 AM last night.
