Rather than call a press conference or anything like that, former Boston Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling has used his blog, 38 Pitches, to announce his retirement from baseball.
“Turn out the lights the parties over” …
I used to wait with baited breath for Don Meredith to start singing that on Monday night football. Normally it was sweet music if the Steelers were playing.
If I could get him to sing it again I would. This party has officially ended. After being blessed to experience 23 years of playing professional baseball in front of the world’s best fans in so many different places, it is with zero regrets that I am making my retirement official.
Best of luck in retirement Curt. Thank you for everything you did in helping bring two World Series Championships to the fans of the Red Sox.
Calling it quits [38 Pitches]

I’ll miss Curt’s pitching… and that’s all I’ll miss.
Thanks for the rings, now be quiet.
Why do I feel like this is a bunch of BS?
I see no reason for Curt to come back, but a quick note on the blog is not Curt’s M.O.
This will not be the last we hear from Curt.. .for better or worse.
Yeah I was very much surprised that he didn’t hold a press conference at all. But then again, according to his site, he’s at some conference this week.
We’ll most definitely be hearing from him a lot more since he’s on WEEI and still lives in Medfield.
Plus I’m sure one of the shows on WEEI will get him to call into today to talk about it.
It appears as though his retirement post has blown up the site as I can’t even get through to it now.
Say what you will about Curt, he got it done. That’s all I need to know.
That he did. He delivered on what he promised when he came to the Red Sox. A World Series ring. of course he got us two so that makes it all the more better.
No doubt! I would love to see Randy Johnson duplicate what Curt Schilling has! When Curt Schilling won the World Series with Arizona in 2001, he shared the MVP Award with Randy Johnson.
And after seeing Randy Johnson doing squat with the Yankees while Curt Schilling was picking himself up 2 more World Series Rings with the Red Sox, you tell me. Who was really The Better Pitcher between the 2? You already know my answer.
The records speak for themselves.
Although we have never met I believe I am certain you are a class act and true competitor. It’s refreshing to see you share credit with the other influences in you life, family, friends & faith. I am certain you are correct in doing so.
Wishing you continuing moments to cherish and a long post season.
Curt Thanks for playing for my Phillies, and I rooted for you with Arizona, and Thank You ,Thank You for the 2 titles with my red Sox. You are one of the Greatest of all time. And will be missed…………
Thanks for the Memories, Curt Schiliing.
Red Sox Hall of Fame – 2012
You will never be forgotten Curt Schilling! Without you, we would have never won those Championships in 2004 and 2007. No one in the History of Major League Baseball wears his Heart on his sleeve the same way you do everytime you take the mound. You are “Teddy Ballgame” in the version of a Pitcher!
And that Bloody Sock in Game 6 of the 2004 ALCS proved to all of us what kind of a Pitcher you really are! You are definately a lock for the Red Sox Hall of Fame, if you do not make it to Cooperstown.
