Did Phillies get a little supplemental help to win World Series? Philadelphia Phillies reliever J.C. Romero has been suspended 50 games by MLB for testing positive for a banned supplement. Romero says he spoke with the MLBPA and they had said there was no problem with the supplement he purchased at GNC. It does appear that Romero may have been misled by the MLBPA and was offered a reduced sentence if he admitted guilt. He didn’t do that as he maintains his innocence. He will lose $1.25 million of his $4 million salary for 2009. [ESPN.com]

I don’t know what the supplement was- but depending on what is in writing for the players should be the rules and if a player is dumb enough to “talk” to someone and not get the okay in writing it is their own fault. Skip the reduced sentence crap also- he either took a banned supplement or he didn’t there shouldn’t be a gray area. Professional athletes should be held to the same standards as other poor working saps who have to have drug tests.
The supplement was called 6-OXO and at the time Romero took it (app. 1 yr ago) there were no ingredients on the “banned” list of any sports agencies, nor a label stating anything in it could be considered banned. It was only until recently that label was added, after he had his trial. So check your facts…the supplement was approved by two nutritionists.
