The Boston Red Sox have just 3 days until the exclusive negotiating period with Jason Varitek ends and there hasn’t been anything reported that’s new. I guess maybe as Kennan said yesterday, “no news is good news.”
There was some hardware handed out yesterday by different organizations as Jon Lester was named the recipient of the 2008 Hutch Award and Jacoby Ellsbury won a Legacy Award for steals.
Terry Francona’s bench coach Brad Mills was busy yesterday as he was in Seattle interviewing for the vacant Mariners manager’s opening. Third base coach DeMarlo Hale will have his interview later this week. The good news is that pitching coach John Farrell has declined the Mariners request for an interview.

I had a dream last night that when reading ESPN in the headlines on the side it said that Jason Varitek signed with Baltimore.
Chalk that one up to a bad dream since the Orioles have Matt Wieters on his way up to help them.

Maybe the Sox are taking the same stance with Boras as the Angels are regarding Teixeira. The Angels have refused to make an offer to Teixeira in the exclusive period because they know the following things:
1. Boras clients NEVER sign early and always test the market.
2. They aren’t going to give Boras any negotiating ammo prior to the open period by letting him know what they plan to offer Teixeira. They fele by holdingback they are on level footing with the other clubs bidding for him.
It wouldnt surprise me if Theo and the Trio are doing the same thing for the same or similar reasons regarding Varitek.
