Are the Boston Red Sox planning on changing the look of their road uniforms for the 2009 season?
Our good friend Dan from Red Sox Monster sent this over earlier this afternoon and provides us with a look at the proposed uniform.
I like these a lot and I’m with Dan that they should keep the names on the back of the uniforms. Just please don’t make any changes to home uniform is all I ask.
Plus if you think about it for a second, it’s just another way for the Red Sox to make a buck or two.

I don’t like the piping down the middle. On the home uni its good because it separates Red and Sox on the road uni it’s a distraction.
Kind of looks like the Yomiuri Giants.

i like them a lot they kinda look old school but at the same time there new …. alot like the new dodge challenger lol go red sox!
Th emore I think about this the more I dont know if they could change them for ‘09 even if they wanted to. I know for a fact there is a cut off date to submit uniform designs/changes for the following season and I believe that is at some point in the second half of the year. So if they were changing I’m sure it’d be out by now like the changes the O’s made were talked abou tback in like August.
I guess unless someone from the Sox comes forward or the MSM knows anything we’ll justhave to wait and see.
I decided to email Paul Lukas, who runs the great blog UniWatch its about all things uniform he also writes a UniWatch column for ESPN.com, and he assures me that there is no way the Red Sox road uni’s will look like that.
I agree, they are Yomiuri Giant ripoffs (I live in Japan) but I don’t hate them. I DO prefer the current road unis more.
The Yomiuri Giants uniforms are themselves ripoffs of the 1930s New York Giant uniforms (pretty much every uniform the Y-Giants have ever had has ripped off the concurrent NY/SF Giants uniform). These look more like 1930s Red Sox away uniforms.
I hope that is the new/old road uniform. It reminds me of the ones they wore in the Jimmy Fox era. I always liked the blue BOSTON like in the Red Sox logo. It made more sense. Also, maybe a red hat with a blue B?

This uniform looks absolutely horrible. Theo should be ashamed. Those responsible should be fired.
I realize this is driven by the almighty dollar, but have they no shame? Is nothing sacred?

HIDEOUS!! they honestly make me sick!! There so boring!!! and whats up with the orange? DONT CHANGE THE UNIFORMS UNLESS ITS BETTER THEN WHAT WE ALREADY HAVE! I love you red sox… but dont change the uniforms to somthing that i could wipe my a** with.

Only marketing pinheads would try jerking with something that is so widely loved by all of Red Sox nation.
They are great old school looking Boston uniforms. It is one thing if they changed the lettering style or number style…..Still screams classic Red Sox to me! I looked it up and they had the same style back in 1936-37.

They don’t suck but they are not great – We certainly did not need a change from the old ……But, marketing YES of course – The Disney-fication of the Nation seems to work and indeed they will sell sell sell !!
Hang on to your old memorabilia as a collector it is already worth more!
As long as they start hitting and pitching – I don’t care if they play in their underwear!

The red stripes down the center “sucks”! It goes through the letter T? Yuck! I loved the regular uniforms with red “RED SOX” lettering ans the “B” on the caps are a tradition. I believe that sales of RED SOX merchandise will fall and NOT because of the economy. Come on guys, what the hell are you thinking?
