TBS Loses Game Feed

October 18th, 2008 by Steve · 11 Comments ·

Due to a power outage in Atlanta GA, TBS is currently unable to broadcast Game 6 of the ALCS between the Tampa Bay Rays and the Boston Red Sox.

The outage occurred just prior to the studio show throwing it over to Tampa to the broadcast crew for the game.  They lost power around 7:55 p.m. eastern time.  TBS in the games place showed some of “Bloopers and Practical Jokes” and then the “Steve Harvey Show”.

The unacceptable part in this in that it took TBS nearly ten minutes to put up a scroll stating they were having problems and then they ran scroll only one time at first.  It took them several more minutes for them to run a continous scroll stating they had techincal difficulties.

I’ve never missed Chip Caray this much in my life.  Not funny TBS.

TBS regained power and put the game on the air at 8:28 p.m.

I’ve never been so POed at a broadcasting company in my life. First their ridiculous and biased announcing, and now this? They’re morons.

  • Ian

I should have stayed in the car and just listened to the game on the radio. BTW, it just came back

  • Steve

    I agree Angel.

Can we laugh at “Big Game James?” Has he even REALLY earned that name?

  • Ian

No he hasn’t Angel. I was listening to the pregame show on the way home and they were talking about how he’s never pitched in a big game before tonight.

WEEI has the background on how he got the name.

Tony Massarotti has some more on the problems.

I watched the WHOLE game live in Taiwan. It’s broadcast on the ESPN channel here.

  • Steve

Well Pat as Chip Caray so aptly put it…We “didn’t miss much”. Now you must be getting Dave O’Brien on MLB International there instead of the three nitwits that TBS has.

TBS is horrendous as is Time Warner which dropped the TBS channel in the whole area 20 minutes before the game and “apologizes” but cannot show the game AT ALL for this sunday. UNFREAKING believeable. I mean, come on — you seem to be able to broadcast the lovely Steve Harvey show and other sitcoms, but you cannot pull it together to show the game that determines who goes to series? Not like I watch games all that often — do I have to bring a cot to my local sports bar? Criminey!

  • Steve

Bonnie why couldnt you see Sunday’s game? Are you saying your cable company dropped TBS?

  • Ken

Time Warner owns TBS so I don’t think it would drop its own channel. That’s strange.
