According to sources former NESN Sports Desk anchor Hazel Mae has been hired by the fledgling MLB Network. which will go on the air January 1, 2009.
Mae’s agent Sue Lipton of IMG was able to pull off quite the job in view of Mae’s lack of network abilities.Â
In other media news WEEI has dumped Craig Mustard and Larry Johnson from Saturday mornings. They made the announcement during their final show today.Â
Scott’s Shots says it is expected that they will be replaced by some sort of weei.com based content on Saturday mornings possibly featuring the site’s editor Rob Bradford in order to drive some traffic to the relaunched website.
And finally the Boston Herald Sport Section has gotten even lighter with the resignation of Red Sox beat writer Jeff Horrigan effective September 10th. Horrigan will be moving to Wisconsin with his family where he will pursue a non-media job.  His wife, Katie, just got hired as Public Health Director at the Children’s Hospital in her hometown of Milwaukee.
Horrigan, who was just inducted into the Irish-American Baseball Hall of Fame this week, has been with the Herald for nine years and has covered major league baseball since 1986 for Manchester (NH) Union Leader, The National Sports Daily and Cincinnati Post.  He also co-wrote the Dropkick Murphys’ version of Tessie, an anthem of the 2004 Red Sox during their first championship season in 86 years and was involved with Hot Stove, Cool Music.
