Former Boston Globe scribe Gordon Edes, now of Yahoo! Sports, is reporting that the Boston Red Sox have acquired Mark Kotsay from the Atlanta Braves, pending the outcome of a physical.
The move was made to protect the Red Sox as they placed J.D. Drew on the 15-disabled list with a herniated disc.
Kotsay was batting .289 with 7 home runs and 39 RBI on the season for the Braves. He was removed from the Braves lineup before their game tonight.
Update Wed 1:40 PM: The deal is now official. The Red Sox get Kotsay from the Braves in exchange for minor league outfielder Luis Sumoza (Lowell Spinners). Kotsay also gets a $325,000 bonus for waiving his no trade clause.
Besides Kotsay, the Red Sox also get this:

yea she is considered one of the hottest wives in all of baseball. she’ll fit in nicely with the collection in Boston.
Just saw this over at WEEI.com from Rob Bradford after finishing up the game recap.
The Red Sox are denying reports on WEEI.com and various other media outlets that a deal for Mark Kotsay has been agreed upon. The Sox say that the WEEI.com report that the deal was simply waiting report on medicals, and an ESPN.com report that the Red Sox were on the verge of acquiring Kotsay, are not accurate.
Even if it ends up not being true now, it was still worth it to post some nice pics
And Amalie Benjamin confirms what Rob Bradford said.
So Gordon Edes pulled a Chris Mortensen?
Sure looking like that right now.
I’m still seeing things this morning that this is gonna happen Kotsay said in the AJC he was pulled because he might be traded.
