ESPN is reporting that the Baseball Commissioners Office will announce that video replay use will begin on Thursday with series that start on that day and on Friday for all other series. Three series are scheduled to start Thursday, with Philadelphia at the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota at Oakland and Texas at the Los Angeles Angels.
Commissioner Bud Selig is expected to make the announcement sometime after 5 p.m. today.
The replay reviews will only be used for “boundry calls” on whether a fly ball cleared the fence for a homerun and for determining if potential homeruns are fair or foul.
Major League Baseball is the last of the major sports to use video replay to some extent.
