Massarotti To The Globe; Benjamin Named Full-Time Red Sox Beat Reporter

August 14th, 2008 by Ian · 5 Comments ·

Our good friend Bruce Allen over at Boston Sports Media Watch has a couple of news tidbits involving the Boston Globe.

Tony Massarotti is leaving the Boston Herald to come over to the Boston Globe giving them another CHB with less hair. This is the second big loss for the Herald as they recently lost Rob Bradford to WEEI.com. Massarotti will start with the Globe in September (oh joy, NOT).

With the departure of Gordon Edes to Yahoo! Sports, the Globe was left without a full-time beat reporter for the Boston Red Sox. Well the Globe has filled the position with Amalie Benjamin, who’s been covering the Red Sox all season long but will now have a greater role with the Globe as far as it’s Red Sox coverage.

David Scott of Scott’s Shots has his analysis about the moves plus says that Ron Borges will be joining WEEI.com.

Oh goodie. If you think CHB is a vile, pompous ass wait til you get a load of Borges he is the king.

I think if the Globe reels Massarotti in and makes him a writer instead of being the pompous douchebag he plays he wil be just fine. When he wants to write he is very good, unfortunately for the Herald to try to compete they needed him to be an asshat. The moves also ends his on air time at WEEI because the Globe and WEEI have a long standing fued and none of the writers can appear on air.

A little shuffling of deck chairs on the Titanic, it is funny how the Globe and the Herald are trying to redefine themselves to be more web friendly with little success. I think they need to worry about WEEI when Bradford gets it rolling.

Check out Bruce Allen’s thoughts on Borges going to WEEI.

I agree Matt. I’ve always enjoyed Bradford’s posts and articles and he’s already got the familiarity with the Red Sox so I think he’ll just pick up where he left off when he left the Globe.

Adam Kilgore from the Washington Post will be sharing the Red Sox beat at the Globe with Amalie.
