While the Boston Red Sox have 7 representatives at this year’s 2008 MLB All-Star Game, they will not have anyone participating in the State Farm Home Run Derby.
Coverage of the event begins at 8 PM on ESPN. I’m pretty sure you’ll be getting a glimpse of your favorite Red Sox All-Stars during the telecast.
Had David Ortiz not gotten hurt, it’s quite likely he was going to participate if he had not gotten hurt given the fact that State Farm had a promotion involving him for the Home Run Derby.
Nonetheless, it should be quite entertaining as some of the game’s brightest stars will be on display showing their home run prowess.

If you’re interested MLB.com is holding a contest involving the Home Run Derby. The winner of the contest gets 2 tickets to the 2009 MLB All-Star Game in St. Louis.

Not a lot of true star power here when you compare the event to years past. These 8 guys are good and maybe they will all eventually build a legacy but its hard to compare them to HR Derby’s with Griffey, Ripken, Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Ortiz, Rodriguez, Gonzalez, etc.
Uhhhhh……..did anyone notice that all of these players are white? haha
where ia pujols!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! And Rick Ankiel
Wheres vladimir or ortiz
Since Vlad is not in the All-Star Game and has some nagging injuries, he decided to rest over the break.
Brandon, obviously you’re not a Red Sox fan because you’d know Big Papi is hurt and not even playing in the game.

What’s race have to do with anything?
Ok there are like no power hitters except for Justin Morneau.
WHATS UP WIT DATT
Sometimes I wonder if people look at stats.
Chase Utley – 25 home runs which is good for 3rd in the NL
Ryan Braun, Dan Uggla – 23 home runs which is good for a tie for 4th in the NL
Lance Berkman – 22 home runs which is good for a tie for 8th in the NL.
Grady Sizemore – 23 home runs leads the AL
Josh Hamilton – 21 home runs which is good for a tie for 3rd
Longoria has 16 home runs and Morneau has 14 home runs.
I’d say the power tonight lies in the hands of the NL.
My pick for winner is Ryan Braun
Where is A Rod in these derby? HE HIT HIS 537 TH CAREER HOMERUN!!!
He’s afraid he’ll be an embarrassment:
On why he won’t participate in the Home Run Derby: “I am so bad at it, honestly. I would embarrass myself and the whole city of New York. I would not want to do that to this great city.”
And don’t forget to participate in the Home Run Derby drinking contest.
