Johnny Damon’s Near Catch

July 4th, 2008 by Ian · 4 Comments ·

With the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees currently in a rain delay that has now reached 1 hour mark with the Red Sox leading 6-3 with 1 out in the 8th inning, let’s take a look at Johnny Damon almost robbing Kevin Youkilis of a hit.

I say almost because after Damon collided with the wall, the ball came out of his glove and actually was sitting on top of the wall before falling back into the field of play. Youkilis ended up with a triple and 2 RBIs.

I have to wonder if someone kicked the wall to make it fall back into the field of play or did the reverberations of the wall send it there.

The game will get back underway in just 10 minutes at 5:45 PM.

That was the weirdest, strangest play I’ve ever seen in baseball. I really don’t think anyone nudged the wall the two guys that seemed to be closest were pointing to the ball.

Aw, Johnny, a near catch. I believe I recently read something recently about close only counting in horseshoes and hand grenades.

Nah, I’m not greedy. He got a triple, drove in two, and took out Damon for Masterson tomorrow. The results speak for themselves. :)
