This is the first we’ve heard or seen of Boston Red Sox outfielder Manny Ramirez shoving Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick after an argument over Ramirez’ ticket allotment for Saturday’s game.
Here’s the article in it’s entirety from Sean McAdam at the Providence Journal:
Maybe it’s something in the water in Houston.
Days after Houston Astros pitcher Shawn Chacon tackled general manger Ed Wade in the home clubhouse at Minute Maid Park, the visitors clubhouse was the scene of another player-club employee altercation Saturday afternoon.
Manny Ramirez shoved Red Sox traveling secretary Jack McCormick to the ground in an argument over Ramirez’ ticket allotment. Several onlookers moved quickly to separate the two.
Ramirez had asked McCormick for 16 tickets for Saturday night’s Red Sox-Astros game, an unusually high number for day-of-game. In addition to handling all travel details for clubs, traveling secretaries also take player ticket requests for both home and away games.
When McCormick cautioned Ramirez that he might not be able to fulfill his request, Ramirez responded by shouting: “Just do your job!”
An argument ensued and Ramirez pushed McCormick, sending him to the ground.
Later, the two met behind closed doors and Ramirez apologized to McCormick, who accepted the gesture. No further disciplinary action is expected against Ramirez.
Asked on Sunday to comment on the altercation, Ramirez responded: “That’s over. We’re fine now.”
“Sometimes things happen,” said Terry Francona, “and when they do, we choose to handle them internally. I’m satisfied with how we handled this.
Added McCormick: “It was an unfortunate misunderstanding and it’s over with as far as I’m concerned.”
Obviously we know this isn’t the first time Manny has shoved someone this season. Let’s hope that this latest incident doesn’t affect the Red Sox decision to exercise the 2009 option on Manny’s contract.

Hmmm, I really don’t know how to respond to this just yet.
I was very surprised when I saw it as well.
What happened to Zen Manny?
This also puts the dugout incident with Youk in a new light…maybe.
getting into it with a team mate is one thing but pushing down the traveling secretary or another club employee is unacceptable. The Red Sox should fine and suspend Manny for three games. You can not accept this crap no matter who the player is.
fc, I too am wondering what happened to Zen Manny. This seems very uncharacteristic of him. Gotta wonder exactly what is going on…
I’d have to think part of the Red Sox handling it internally was to fine him. While I agree he should be suspended, the Red Sox can’t afford to lose him right now.
I wonder if his recent slump and being frustrated at the plate has anything to do with this.
D&C are using the story to try to run Manny out of town. Thank goodness I have satellite radio in my car so I had some peace driving to work today.
I used to enjoy D&C but now that Stern’s on Sirius their ego has gotten in the way because of their numbers and I find them unlistenable.
And regardless of whether or not they can afford to lose him right now is not the issue, he should get three days. You need to set an example and treat everyone the same. If someone like Brandon Moss flipped out and did that what do you think happens to him?
Exactly.
I’m not surprised about them trying to do that at all Ken. While it’s a big issue, it’s been handled internally. Now tomorrow I’m sure they’ll be trying to run Willie Andrews out of town.
Manny is such an @ss clown. Of course all the (chronically) drunk sox fan boys will say “awww dahhts just Mahhhnny bein’ Mahhhnny…”
It’s definitely not a case of “Manny being Manny” as that Manny is the fun loving jovial one.
This Manny is concerning because it’s totally uncharacteristic of him. As far as I can remember, he’s never been involved in a fight with a teammate or anyone else that we’ve heard off before these two incidents.
From what I could gather, it sounds like he’s going to be fined and/or have to make a contribution to charity.
