The NBA Champion Boston Celtics selected J.R. Giddens from University of New Mexico with the 30th and final pick of the first round in the 2008 NBA Draft.
Giddens, a 6-foot 5 inch, 230 pound shooting guard who has had some issues on and off the floor, started his NCAA career at Kansas before transferring to New Mexico.
Some of the problems include a tavern fight in 2005 in which he was stabbed leading to him to transfer from KU. He was also suspended during his junior season in 2007 for undisclosed reasons by the Lobos.
Celtics head coach Doc Rivers says Giddens “is long and athletic and can defend”. Rivers added that general manager Danny Ainge “has been watching him a long time and really likes him”.
The Celtics recently won their record 17th NBA title and did it with the largest turnaround in NBA history winning 42 more games than the previous season.

I really thought the Celtics would have taken Chris Douglas-Roberts with this pick.
yea I didnt figure Giddens either. But I guess they really feel Giddens has turned the corner with his problems and he really fits their needs better. CDR could end up being the stealof the draft too.
