The New York Mets fired manager Willie Randolph, pitching coach Rick Peterson and first base coach Tom Nieto after their game in Los Angeles against the Angels last night.
Despite beating the Angels, the team issued a statement at 3:15 a.m. (ET) that Randolph, Peterson and Nieto had been let go.
Former Chicago White Sox manager Jerry Manuel, who was Randolph’s bench coach, has been named interim manager.

Oy vey. I thought this dance would go one all year.
He should have been canned a while ago. The way they handled this was very classless. Waiting til after the tabloids went to press.
Why would anyone want to manage there when that’s the way they handle things.
Willie lost that team last season, he should not have been brought back in 2008. Instead now they even more upheaval on team seeking steadiness and guidance. That appears to be one screwed up front office, something that seems to be the norm in New York sports (Knicks, Yankees, Mets).
