Camden Yards

Last night the Boston Red Sox hit 3 home runs on their way to a win. Today, they pounded Orioles pitching for 16 hits and 3 more home runs in a 9-4 win in front of 45,301 at Camden Yards. The win for the Red Sox is their third straight after starting the road trip 1-5.

Every member of the Red Sox starting 9 had hits with the exception of Jeff Bailey, who reached base 3x via walks. Manny Ramirez and Jacoby Ellsbury were 3-for-5 with Manny adding a home run and 3 RBIs while Ellsbury had a stolen base and an RBI. J.D. Drew was 2-for-3 with a home run and 3 RBIs and Mike Lowell had the other home run for Sox as part of his 2 hits. Julio Lugo and Kevin Youkilis also had 2 hits a piece.

Bartolo colon went 6+ innings to improve to 3-0Bartolo Colon took the ball for the Red Sox today and didn’t have his best outing but it was still good enough for the win. If there’s one thing he needs to work on right now it would be his slider. He had good life on his fastball again but his slider wasn’t really sliding like it should. He went 6+ innings allowing 4 runs on 7 hits and 2 walks while striking out 5.

Javier Lopez worked the 7th allowing two hits while Craig Hansen continues to impress as he struck out 2 in an inning of work. Manny Delcarmen worked the 9th giving up a hit in the process.

The Red Sox started their beating of Orioles starter Brian Burres in the 2nd inning. Lowell led off with a double and went to third on a Jason Varitek single. Drew brought in Lowell with a sac fly to make it 1-0.

Luke Scott, who’s been killing Red Sox pitching this year, started the 2nd with a double and went to third on a Jay Payton sacrifice. He came around to score on an Adam Jones single to tie the game at 1.

More pounding of Burres in the 3rd. Pedroia and Youk started the inning with singles as Pedroia would go to third on Youk’s single. Manny continues to swing a hot bat as his double drove in Pedroia giving the Red Sox a 2-1 lead. Lowell followed that with a sac fly driving in Youk. After a Tek line out, Drew made it 4-1 as his single brought in Manny.

Manny cranks home run #501The bad outing continued for Burres in the top of the 4th. Ellsbury led off with a bunt single. Pedroia flew out and then Youk grounded into a fielder’s choice that got Ellsbury at second. Manny made it 6-1 with the 501st home run of his career. Lowell followed that up with a home run of his own as the Red Sox padded their lead to 7-1.

Colon gave two back in the bottom half of the inning when Aubrey Huff led off with a single and came around to score on a Scott home run cutting the lead to 7-3.

J.D. Drew adds a solo home run in the 7thThe Sox added two runs in the 7th off of Steve Trachsel on a Drew home run and Ellsbury single to go up 9-3.

Kevin Millar made it 9-4 with a RBI single in the bottom of the 7th but that’s as close as the Orioles would get.

Tim Wakefield will look to knuckle over the Orioles as the Red Sox go for the sweep and a chance to even their record to 5-5 on the road trip.
