Congratulations goes out to Boston Red Sox left fielder Manny Ramirez who has hit the 500th home run of his career.

It was solo shot the opposite way on the first pitch he saw from Orioles reliever Chad Bradford. Manny becomes the 24th member of the 500-home-run club.

I’m glad Manny hit it today since Tito won’t be at the game tomorrow.

  • Liza

    Why won’t Tito be there?

And I wanted him to hit it tomorrow (my birthday, just in case I haven’t, you know, mentioned it daily since last week), but I’m actually glad he did it tonight–now we can split it as a birthday present.

Tito is going to be in Brookline for his daughter’s high school graduation.

Manny’s next goal to accomplish in his words:

    “hit 501″

I cried like a baby too! Congratulations Manny!

  • fc

Did you guys see how one fan who had a sign about Manny’s 500 changed it to 5001 for Manny’s next at bat?

  • Kim

I did see that sign fc. Classic!

  • Ian

I caught that when I watched it again.

Manny is one of the greatest right-handed hitters of all time. Fitting too that he stood and walked down the line for two minutes before deciding to jog wasn’t it? I’m not a huge fan of Manny due to his antics. He insists on putting himself as the center of attention on and off the field when his play is enough to do the talking. But with that said, Manny certainly cemented his place as one of the greatest right-handed hitters of all time last night. Tip of the cap is deserved.

I wouldn’t have expected anything less of Manny last night.

I WAS THERE…it was crazy, awesome. Our whole section was going nuts….except for one guy who was a Yankees fan wearing an Orioles hat, he was giving Manny the finger so I reached over and took the hat off his head and started hitting him with it….luckily I’m a lot older than he was…and a woman…so he didn’t hit me back…actually he was laughing (whew). Anyway, it was just unbelievable, with SO many fans there, it felt like Fenway south. What a night!
