J.D. Drew blasts a grand slam the opposite way

I apologize for the lateness of the post as I’m still a little bit under weather with a wicked pissah of a headache that’s been with me for the past three days.

The Boston Red Sox finished off a 7-game homestand with wins in each game with each game a little more exciting then the next. The homestand culminated with Daisuke Matsuzaka on the mound seeking his AL-leading 8th win which he ended up getting despite 6 walks to increase his total to 38 on the season. The 38 walks leads all pitchers by the way.

It amazes me that all those walks have not come back to hurt him that much over the course of his 10 starts. The key is that he has only allowed 41 hits in 60 innings of work. His ERA on the season now stands at 2.40.

“It wasn’t very good,” said Matsuzaka through interpreter Masa Hoshino. “It hasn’t been very good for a while now.”

“It’s not really something I prefer to discuss out in the open, but rather something I need to digest within myself,” he said.

“Today with Cash catching, we went over signs and pitches very briefly before the game,” Matsuzaka said. “But I realize in hindsight that we could’ve probably discussed a few more things in depth. When I found out that Cash would be catching me before the game, I thought it would be a good change and I didn’t think too much of it at the time.”

“I’m very grateful that I’ve been given the chance to get these wins under these circumstances,” said Matsuzaka. “Compared to last year, I feel I have a better overall grasp of the characteristics of each batter I’m facing, so that might affect the result a little bit.”

The Red Sox have signed 16-year old Australian Boss Moanaroa to a six figure contract.

Mark Teahen could see more time at first base for the Royals.

Mike Lowell didn’t realize he had hit 7 grand slams in his career until he was told after the game.

It was a grand day at Fenway Park yesterday.

We all know of the struggles of Manny Ramirez at the plate as of late. Well it appears that he has found the flaw in his swing and is working on the correction.

“That sign doesn’t have anything to do with it,” said Ramirez of his recent struggles. “We were watching some video and I was doing something wrong, but now I know what I’m doing so I’ll be fine.”

It’s not uncommon for guys reaching a milestone like that to press. Manny says he isn’t pressing but it’s hard to believe that. Although Manny is Manny so you never know. I have a feeling that he will have his 500 before the Red Sox return back to Fenway Park 11 days from now. It wouldn’t surprise me to see him have it done by the weekend.

Don’t forget about the chat with Kathryn Tappen today at 12 Noon over at NESN.
