Another Manny Being Manny Moment

May 14th, 2008 by Ian · 19 Comments ·

Manny high fives a fan

This could be one of the best “Manny Being Manny” moments we have seen in his career with the Boston Red Sox. He makes a great running catch, climbs the wall to high-five a fan and then gets the throw in to the relay man, Dustin Pedroia, who threw to first for a double play.

HA! Yes! Thank you for this!

  • njdevils

    AWESOME!! Thanks, Ian!

  • njdevils

The only one who seems unaffected by the whole thing is Josh. He’s just sitting there with his shades and that blank expression on his face, still beating himself up from last night…

Thank you for these sweet moments to brighten an otherwise dismal evening. I don’t know which is more fun to watch, Manny’s play or the team’s – especially Mikey’s – reaction to the reply.

Dammit guys – I love you. WIN!

  • fc

Duh – that should be :reaction to the replay.

Thanks for posting this Ian! I knew you’d have a link by the time the game was done, you never let us down. I was watching on mlb.tv so I didn’t get to see or hear all the fun stuff after the play. Manny telling Papi about the high five was HILARIOUS!

  • Kim

That was bloody fantastic! Manny is by far the most exciting baseball player I’ve ever watched! Sox fans will talk about this play for years to come.
    Great job, Manny!

Hey thanks, Ian. I know the outcome of the afternoon was dismal (to borrow a word from fc), but I couldn’t wait to get home and watch this little goodie. A Manny moment always brightens my day!

  • Ian

Y’all are very welcome. That will probably be something we will never see again in our lifetimes. And like Kim said, it will most definitely something we talk about for years to come.

Just a great play with a touch of Manny added for flavor. While watching live I was stunned at the catch, started cracking up when I saw the high five and then was like holy crap when he turned it into a double play.Manny has plenty of naysayers about a lot of the stuff he does, but since he came here he has become my favorite player of this entire era. My dad is an Indians fan and I’ll never forget what he told me when the Sox signed him. For every run he gives away in the field he will bring you five or more and for every goofy thing he does he will do something equally as incredible. That play was a combination of everything Manny.

Did anyone else notice how close Pedroia came to taking the runner’s head off at second base with the relay throw to first?

Also, the Bangles need to change their song, Manic Monday to Manny Moment

It’s just another Manny moment (oh-woe)

  • slop pop

    anyone know the fans name?

  • Steve

I really surprised no one from the media went out to talk to the guy during the game. But Tony Mazz was too busy ripping Patriots fans and the rest of the Herald staff was too busy writing apologies or defending co-workers.

As for the Globe Gordon Edes must have been talking about his buyout and Amalie must have been freshning up. I have no clue were the ProJo and some others were.

Dan From Red Sox Monster tracked down this blog post that has an interview with the guy.

    thanks for the link ian…

  • Ian

No problem, you should be thanking Dan.

The young man that high fived Manny is our son, Randy Dunning. We got tickets to the game while he was visiting us from Oklahoma. He was visiting us before he heads out to Army Officer Candidate School on May 29th. His uncle is Barry Switzer and the phone has not quit ringing. Look under Photo News on our website. That is his mother next to him.

  • Steve

Thats cool. Its something he can tell people about for the rest of his life.

  • Ian

Your son will always be a part of Manny Being Manny since I’m sure that clip will get played a lot over the years.
