The NFL Network is reporting that the New England Patriots had a visit from free agent running back Kevin Jones at Gillette Stadium last week. The Patriots have always been high on Jones and were prepared to draft him with the 32nd pick in the 2004 NFL Draft but Detroit made a trade and grabbed him at 31.
The speedy Jones, who came out of Virginia Tech, is recovering from a torn ACL. The Patriots are pretty stacked at running back with Laurence Maroney, Sammy Morris, Kevin Faulk, Kyle Eckel and Heath Evans but an extra body has never hurt anyone as injuries tend to mount in a position that really takes a weekly beating.
