Now that Matt Walsh has met with NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell and has confirmed that there is no tape of the St. Louis Rams Super Bowl XXXVI walk through you have to wonder what is now going to happen in regards to the Boston Herald and John Tomase who wrote the article about the existence of the tape.
It’s time now for Tomase and the Herald to do one of a few things. They can come clean and say it was pure speculation and rumor and they ran with it. They can reveal the source that gave them the information they used or admit that they were duped by someone who either posed as Walsh or another Patriots employee.
The Patriots may have some options here as well one of which could be a lawsuit against the Boston Herald for a false story. The Kraft family may feel a need to protect their franchise and their legacy and a lawsuit may be a way to do that.
Now it’ all up to how the Herald and Tomase handle this on their end. Tick tock, we’re waiting.

A couple of media notes from today’s event:Is it me or does it seem very strange that the Boston Herald has been silent on this whole Walsh/Goodell meeting today. While all the other media types were continually updating their websites and blogs with stories the Herald has apparently faded to black.
The ProJo has finally come around to mntioning the New York Times piece from the St Louis/New England Super Bowl of soeone being seen watching the Patriots practice. The MSM brough this up months ago as did S&D.
The outrage expressed by ESPN’s Mark Schlereth and Cris Carter makes me laugh. You’d think two former players would realize there is no way you could take this info and use it immediately. It’sjust too time consuming to tryto figue out what you’re looking at especially finding the correct down and distance plays on a tape. And for John Clayton to say “you can just burn it to a cd” is laughable. You still need need time to find the specific down and distance you’e looking for plus be able to decipher the play. It just cant happen in a 15 minute half time or even a longer 30 minute half like at the Super Bowl.
And John you burn it to a DVD not a CD.
I’d love to hand Clayton, Schlereth and Carter those tapes and give them a specific down and distance situation and give them 30 minutes to find it and write up what went on and how to play against it. I’m of the opinion it just can not be done that quickly.
