Seems Indianapolis Colts head coach Tony Dungy is being a bit of a dickhead when it comes to some reading between the lines of a statement he made at a book signing in Tampa for his new book, “Quiet Strength”.

Dungy and his co-author were taking random questions out of a football helmet when he brought up “SpyGate”.

“Then someone asked if anything happened last season that he wished he could include in the book. What followed was vintage Dungy. He seized the opening. He brought up the videotaping scandal with the New England Patriots.”

“We talk about how important it is to do things the right way and have integrity so that when you do win, people can never ask that question,” said Dungy. “That’s the great thing that I’m happy about with our team.

“Yes, we won. But no one is really going to ask, ‘Did they cheat? Did they do things the right way?’ I think our record speaks for itself and if you’re a true champion, that’s the way you’d like it to be.”

What he basically said was fuck the Patriots they won because they cheated, no one is accusing us of cheating when we won. Dungy comes off a bit high and mighty in those comments.

But as Kissing Suzy Kolber’s Christmas Ape wrote in a Deadspin post is basically that while the Colts haven’t been accused of cheating there have been questions about piped in crowd noise at the Hoosier Dome for years. Even though they were cleared of any wrong doing in last seasons Patriots game there have been other issues with the noise.

A Colts fan blog took exception to Ape’s comments calling him an “idiot” and “that he doesn’t know WTF he is talking about”. I think the Stampede Blue needs to re-read some history and so does Ape.

Christmas Ape told me in an email “I figured Colts fans would take issue with that. CBS might be to blame for that specific incident but the issue of crowd noise in the RCA Dome had been raised a number of times in the past. Dungy alleged that no one has ever questioned the Colts for shady behavior and that isn’t true. I’m not trying to equate SpyGate with generated crowd noise, but the suspicions are still there.”

Folks most of the NFL teams are far from lily white. If you don’t want people digging through your garbage you better keep your own house clean. The fastest way to get people digging is to start spouting off. Just ask Roger Clemens.
