With Sean Casey coming off the disabled list today, the likely victim was thought to be Craig Hansen, who is the only member of the Boston Red Sox bullpen who has options left. It’s not a surprise that the speculation was wrong though as Julian Tavarez was designated for assignment.
With all the rumors of Tavarez being scouted by the Colorado Rockies, it’s most likely that they will place a waiver claim on him and the two teams will work out a trade.
Tavarez has left us with some many fond memories.
Loving himself some crazy New YorkersÂ
And last but not least, some private time with Manny Ramirez.

I’m going to miss Tavarez. Poor Manny, that was his BFF.
You have to wonder if this is in anticipation of Bartolo Colon being ready soon. I’m pretty sure they’d put Colon in the rotation and possibly move Lester or Buchholz into the bullpen unless they want them to start and stay stretched out then someone, my guess would be Buchholz, goes back to Pawtucket.
I really think it is. As long as Colon stays healthy and pitch well, there’s no doubt in my mind he will be wearing a Boston Red Sox uniform by June 1st (which is his new opt-out date).
Tavarez just wasn’t getting the job done and John Farrell said it last week, the Red Sox couldn’t be concerned anymore about the pitchers who don’t have options anymore. They need to have a bullpen of people who are pitching well and Yo-Yo wasn’t one of them.
I definitely think everyone will miss Yo-Yo directing traffic on the mound but hopefully the videos provide some of his lighter moments.
