The weather forecast isn’t looking to pretty tonight in Detroit as the Boston Red Sox and Tigers look to play game 3 of their 4-game set. The forecast calls for a 60% chance of showers with 20 to 30 MPH winds. It has been raining at Comerica Park for most of the day. So there’s a pretty good chance it will be a long night since this is the Red Sox only trip to the Motor City this season.
If you missed this earlier in the day here, Jacoby Ellsbury is one of the 4 nominees for the American League Rookie of the Month for April presented by Gillette.
I caught this interesting stat in the Boston Red Sox game notes for today and had to pass this along.
With Tim Wakefield—8 IP (41 years, 278 days) and Mike Timlin—1 IP (42 years, 57 days) combining on Tuesday’s shutout, it was the 1st time in modern major league history (since 1900) that a team has pitched a combined shutout with all pitchers being at least 40 years of age (Source: Elias Sports Bureau).
When I read that, it brought back memories of a post from last year. There’s not much you can say about Wake’s performance last night other than he was awesome.
For those of you who follow the PawSox, Alex Cora will be in the lineup tonight at either 2B or shortstop. Tomorrow both Cora and Sean Casey will be in the lineup at DH and 1B respectively. On Friday, Cora will play either 2B or shortstop with Casey the DH. And last but not least, Bartolo Colon is scheduled to start on Saturday for the PawSox.
The Red Sox will be holding a Mother’s Day Walk at Fenway Park on Sunday. Click here for the details.
