It’s been a good past few days for the UConn Huskies men’s basketball program. Yesterday, Hasheem Thabeet announced that he will be staying for his junior year and today Ater Majok gave the Huskies an oral committment to play next season.
Majok’s letter-of-intent is expected to be signed during the next few days. Until then, head coach Jim Calhoun cannot comment on him.
Majok is a 6′10″ forward from Australia via the Sudan. He has been projected to go in the first round of next year’s NBA Draft.
The commitment of Majok gives UConn five new players (Kemba Walker, Scottie Haralson, Nate Miles and Charles Okwandu) for next season. The problem is that they have only four scholarships available since Thabeet returned meaning that someone else will have to transfer if all of them become eligible.
Here is a look at Majok in action.

its going to be interesting to see how/if miles is coming next fall, of course if the clearinghouse clears him to play. theres no scholarships available and i dont see anyone else transferring. beverly and mandol-stiff already said they arent transferring.
heres a pretty good area to get news, of course you have to sift through the usual BS or absurd fan comments. its from the scouthoops.com husky boards

Yeah everything I’ve read said that the clearinghouse hasn’t cleared him yet and it’s most likely that he’ll never put on a UConn uniform which may make things easier.
If he clears, you can bet Calhoun will find a way to get him on the team.
Yeah I’ve got The Boneyard linked on the side. Also an interesting read to say the least.
Luke Winn over at Sports Illustrated has the Huskies preseason #1 next year.
yeah i saw Luke’s preseason top 10. he has seemed to always like the Huskies, or atleast mention them promenently. doesnt hurt that lives in NYC and sees the huskies alot either in person or on tv. Theres no doubt Calhoun will get Miles a scholorship if hes cleared to play, not sure where he will get it from but JC will forcefully find a way. although i dont like the Stanley Robinson rumors about his poor grades and that could be the next player leaving. I sure as hell hope that doesnt happen
If those rumors are true, it will be a huge blow for the Huskies. He was finally looking comfortable towards the end of the season. It’ll be tough if they have to start a freshman at the wing next season.
yeah i dont think it will happen but JC seems confident Miles will be a Husky if the ncaa clears him. maybe the best outcome would be that the clearinghouse doesnt clear him and he has to go to JUCO for a year then come next year.
