After falling further than the original projections, UConn Huskies offensive lineman Donald Thomas was finally taken by the Miami Dolphins with the 29th pick (195th overall) in the 6th round.
Thomas had a good NFL Combine and it had been thought he would have gone in the 4th or 5th round today. Thomas will give the Dolphins more depth on their offensive line as Bill Parcells looks to rebuild the Dolphins into a contender.
Thomas, a West Haven, CT native, didn’t play football for UConn until the 2004 season when he was redshirted. He played in 11 games in 2005 on special teams and then saw action at left guard during the 2006 season, including 1 start. He started all 13 games for the Huskies this past season at right guard.
He is a good blocker and could develop into a better pass blocker as he becomes more fundamentally sound.
