UConn Huskies Breaking News

Okay UConn Huskies men’s basketball fans. Take a deep breath and relax. Hasheem Thabeet has decided to stay at UConn for his junior season, passing up a chance in this year’s NBA Draft.

“I am excited about the opportunity to stay at UConn and continue the mission that we started this season,” said Thabeet. “I also want to thank my family and close friends for all of their help and support. As a team, we took a step in the right direction this year, but I look forward to us working together to win a BIG EAST Championship and making a run at a national championship. I really enjoy being here, getting a great education and spending time with my friends and teammates.”

Jim Calhoun was pleased to hear Thabeet was staying.

“We are happy that Hasheem has made the decision to return for his junior season,” said head coach Jim Calhoun. “Hasheem has made as much progress as any player I have coached in my 36 years and if he continues that incredible progress, he will help us take the next step as a team and help himself become one of the best players in college basketball.”

As was pointed out in a previous comment, this year’s NBA Draft class was rich in the big man department. He will most likely be a lottery pick next season. Plus his return to the Huskies has to make them legitimate national title contenders next season. Of course, that will also rely on the return of A.J. Price, who suffered an ACL injury in the Huskies first round loss in the NCAA Tournament this year.

good news for the huskies. they are also the leader for Ater Majok from Austrilia via the sudan (14th rated prospect by rivals.com), who should make his announcement today or tommorrow.

also good job getting mentioned by name on deadspin Ian. Are you playing softball this year?

Majok just signed today actually. Just posted something about it a few minutes ago.

Thanks. I was laughing when I saw it on the chat and figured it was perfect for there.

I haven’t actually played since 2002 or 2003. I usually go up when I can to watch my boys on T.G.I. Friday’s play.
