Our friend David Scott at Scott’s Shots is reporting that Gordon Edes is leaving the Boston Globe to write about baseball for Yahoo! Sports. Edes will be a national baseball writer for the online provider.
It’s uncertain if Edes will just leave the Globe for Yahoo! Or if he will be part of the buyout that’s been ongoing at the paper.
Edes will be reunited with former LA Times staffer Dave Morgan who is the executive Sports Editor at Yahoo!.
Sources also say that NESN has officially hired Heidi Watney as Tina Cervasio’s replacement. Watney was rumored to be the person in line for the job after an off-air audition when the team was in Los Angeles in March.
Watney though doesn’t come with a squeaky-clean reputation having had an incident during a high school speaking engagement where she used inappropriate language and was suspended. She has also had a run in with actor Bill Murray and was recently let go from her last reporting job in Fresno, CA.
I think we’d have all been better served with Kathryn Tappen.

I liked Edes. This could explain the greater role for Nick Cafardo on the NESN pre-game show as of late.
Now if the Globe could only get rid of the “Curly Haired Boyfriend” we’d be all set.
I was enjoying Don Orsillo as the on field reporter before the games but there’s never anything wrong with a little eye candy. I wonder when she will be starting up.
I imagine she’d start soon not like she has another job.
i thought tappen was the front runner. tappen looks happy doing the bruins gig
This is my thinking on it.
1. They were happy with having her on SportsDesk and the Bruins telecast.
2. She said she’s happy with what she’s doing on SportsDesk and the Bruins.
If you think about it. She’s newly engaged and is going to be planning a wedding so maybe that was a factor in the decision. Taking the Red Sox job means you’re on the road with the team essentially the entire season. There weren’t that many games last year that you didn’t see Tina working. And as far as I can tell Heidi isn’t married or engaged.
The Inside Track broads said Tappen was the front runner, NESN never said that. I think theyre happywith her doing the Bruins games and Sports Desk on weekends.
She may have been asked to do the job but may have turned it down, there’s a ton of travel with it. With her fiance being a hockey player he has summers off so he can be in Boston to be with her, but if she’s on the road half the time it doesn’t work. But all this is just speclation on my part.
wow were we channelling that or what?
Great minds think alike or I typed my response faster.
Heidi Watney will service you just fine.
She’s hot, she’s actually quite talented, and has a face for television.
Her ‘incident’ here in Fresno wasn’t really her fault or her thang. She got stuck in an issue with her co-anchor (and ex) Darrol.
You’ll be happy with Heidi, and I’m personally sad she’s gone. She was something bright and straightforward when it came to sports reporting. (none of this ‘booyah!’ imitation stuff….just the sports and only the sports.)
I’d love for her to service me.
From what I saw of her on YouTube, she’s actually quite good. It will be a nice change of pace for us up here.
It will be interesting to see how the players take to her since she’s an upgrade in looks from Tina Cervasio.
And here’s a nice picture of her from the Beehive.
Stephen what was the “inappropriate language” issue at the high school?
I dont think she’s that great looking in those photos I want to see her on camera because right now she’s no K-Tap.
